Client permissions & plans
One other key question we mentioned earlier was this:
How much control do you want to give your clients?
This is an important question to think through now because this will impact how you will design your templates.
Permissions in Duda's Platform
There are several client permissions that you can turn on or off depending on your preferences. You can find a list of these modifiable client permissions here:

Once you’ve identified which permissions you want to enable for your clients, you’ll need to communicate those selections to your developer who will use the API to dynamically create an account for the client and grant those permissions before the client lands in their new site.
Permissions get set when the client's account gets created:

Critical permission: Publishing
One very important permission to pay attention to is publishing.
It’s common for businesses to let clients publish their own sites, however, this is usually where a paywall comes into play.
Since Duda changes you for each published site, it’s important to consider when your want to allow your clients to publish. Often it's a good idea to ensure clients can’t publish until they’ve paid you!
How you implement the paywall will vary on your billing software and internal processes. You’ll need a developer, possibly an operations person, and possibly someone from your Accounting/Finance team as well.
Permissions, Plans, Pricing & Packaging
One extra facet to think about here is whether or not you’d like to put certain features behind a paywall. So, instead of opening all features to everyone, you can create plans to bundle certain sets of permissions together and facilitate upsell opportunities.
Note the distinction here: you can choose to
completely hide certain features so your end users are not aware that a feature exists or you can
expose the feature to the client but require payment for your client to upgrade.
As a rudimentary example, let’s say you have 3 different plans with 3 different sets of permissions: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
Bronze
Includes:
- Single-page website
- DIY site-editing capabilities
Silver
Bronze capabilities plus
- multi-page websites
- ability to use AI features
- chat support
Gold
Silver capabilities
plus
- add a store
- add a blog
- design consultation
- priority support
Plans can be set at different price points and configured so that features are only available when a higher plan is purchased. Plans provide choices for your clients and upsell opportunities for you.

Whew!! This was a heavy section. Nice work powering through that one. Don’t worry if you still have questions on all this. If you can get to a spot where you’ve got at least a rough sense of what you want your clients to be able to do, you can always refine the permissions later.
Next up: we’re going to talk through template creation and the process of building out the template chooser we discussed earlier. Ready for this next part?
