/PREPARING to build your ONLINE STORE

  Your turn

Organize your products

So, how do you organize your store's products? Grab a piece of paper and a pencil and lets try it!

Step 1: List your products

Write down the products you plan to sell online. Don't worry about getting fancy, just list them out.

  • Example: t-shirts, vests, scarves, hats, belts, jeans, skirts

Step 2: Find your main categories

Look at your list. What are the natural groups? Draw a circle around each group.

  • Example: You might circle t-shirts and vests and label them "Tops."  Scarves, hats, and belts might become "Accessories." Jeans and skirts could be "Bottoms."

Step 3: Check for subcategories.

Now, look at each of your main categories. If a group has more than 10-15 items, you might want to break it down further.

  • Example: If your "Tops" category has shirts, vests, and sweaters, you could make subcategories for each to help your customers filter.

This simple exercise can help you create a plan for organizing your store.

Next, we'll talk through Product Pages and identify the information that you'll want to collect for each product.
