Prepare to build site templates

At this point, the flow of your solution is starting to take shape. You’ve got a sense of the flow that your client will experience, and an idea of what content will be automagically populated into the templates when your client sees their site for the first time.

Now it’s time to talk about developing those templates.

Ways to build your templates

Generally, you have 3 options when it comes to building site templates for your solution. You can:

  1. Build new, custom templates from scratch
  2. Use Duda's templates
  3. Modify Duda's templates to fit your industry, then use those as templates

While we recommend creating bespoke templates that reflect the business needs of your clients (option #1), keep in mind that you can use Duda’s templates as-is (option#2) or as a starting point (option #3).

Note

Option #3 can be a nice time-saving approach when you're standing up your solution because you can have someone from your team pull a couple templates, swap out text and images to make them fit your business, and then be on your way!

Finding a designer

When possible, we recommend working with an in-house designer to create templates for your solution. You can contract design services, however, if you ever have maintenance needs, we find that it’s easier for businesses to have an in-house designer who is versed in the editor and equipped to support needed changes.

When you find a designer to work on your templates for you, we’ve got a set of courses they can use to become familiar with the editor. We can also recommend other educational resources to help them learn web design principles and best practices.

If your organization doesn’t have a designer on staff who has the interest or capacity to build templates, know that we have a directory of Duda Experts that you can reach out to in order to contract their services. These companies have demonstrated their skill with Duda and have earned a spot in our Experts directory.

Just a reminder, we recommend starting with at least 3 templates when you launch. Those templates will appear in your template chooser as starting points for your clients’ sites.
