Image Optimization & CDN
When to use
In this lesson, we’ll explore the business images section of the content library. You’ll learn how to upload your own assets and set them up as structured data that can be connected to your site. This works well for individual image widgets, as well as background images in columns and sections.
Quick side note — if you’re looking to connect photo galleries or media sliders, you’ll want to use a collection instead, since their repeating structure is better suited for that. We’ll cover collections in the next lesson.
To get started, let’s first take a look at how to handle images that you want to connect. Open the content library and head over to the Business Images area. Clicking the plus button opens the media manager, where you can upload new images or choose from ones that are already available.
Let's go ahead and upload a new image to the Media Manager. And once the image has uploaded, click on its name from the media manager. This action should open up a new tab of the image.
Each image you upload to the Media Manager is hosted on a content delivery network (CDN) with its own unique URL—perfect for referencing across the site or inserting via the API. Something to keep in mind is how you’ll get your client images—whether from a database or an intake form—onto their Duda site. We’ll cover the API call for uploading assets like files or images later in the course. For now, just remember that anything uploaded to the CDN will get its own unique URL, which you can reference anywhere across the site.
Let's complete our setup by adding the image we just uploaded to the Business Images area. Go ahead and give the image a label. Just a quick reminder: labels will stay the same across all sites built from the template, but the content—like the image itself and the alt text—will be unique for each client.
Now that we've added an image to the content library, let's connect it to the hero section as a background image. You should see the two rings at the top of the section indicating that it has been connected to data.
Let's look at one more example. This time, let’s connect the image widget in the header, which is where the business logo will be displayed. Technically, you could create another field under Business Images to set up the logo, but there's a dedicated space for it under Business Info.
Once we've added the logo, let's head back to the editor to connect the image widget in the header to this data field. And there we have it.
To recap, images set up under business images works with image widgets, as well as column and section backgrounds. And remember, that you can do this for as many—or as few—images as you'd like. You’re in complete control of how much data you want to pass to the site.
Did you know?
Every image uploaded to the Media Manager is automatically optimized for performance. The system generates multiple sizes and compresses each version to ensure fast load times across different devices.
Once optimized, these versions are securely stored on a
content delivery network (CDN), each with its own unique URL. These URLs are used for both connected images and direct uploads to widgets, backgrounds, and other elements. They’re also perfect for use in API-based workflows.
Business Images are ideal for stand-alone visuals like logos, hero backgrounds, or single-image widgets.
To display galleries or collections of images, use a Collection instead, which supports structured, repeatable content. We’ll cover that in the next lesson.
